first video we wrote & directed. kids and no budget made this a challenge, but well worth it. this is the unedited version that was banned in the US WHEN IT FIRST CAME OUT IN 2001 because of the ending...go figure. please let it load before watching.
loved writing and directing this one. its the unedited version, without the bleeping of "high." we were obsessed with "requiem for a dream," which is where we got the idea to use motion control. plus, moms is in it...she rules.
we directed this in 2002. it's the original version that won the MTV2 award at the MTV Video Music Awards, a viewer voted award. we loved making this one, as we had a great pro DP, and chris & the band were fun to work with. please click on my name to see more videos.
the first treatment for this video had the band playing in the same setting with a puppet filling in on drums (saves the day had parted ways with their drummer)...HMM.
Anyway, THIS video was released in April 2002...
we wrote the treatment. we directed the video. we had lots of fun doing a narrative story without needing band footage. and we still like eating peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.
we filmed this at the el rey theater in los angeles. it's one shot, steadicam'd by the amazing Michael Johnson. the crowd is made up of all authentic dashboard fans, who were all great. the band played a mini show at the end to thank them. please click on my name to see more videos.
